When you join CFSA, you become part of a vibrant network of farmers, consumers, foodies, businesses and organizations all working together to ensure a just, healthy and sustainable food system – now and for future generations.
Now is the perfect time to join! Together, we can support more sustainable family farms, grow more local food businesses and add more voices to advocate for fair farm and food policies in the Carolinas.
The current crisis facing our country has shown us just how fragile our food system is. Our regional farmers are the backbone of our local food movement and they are working tirelessly to ensure our continued access to healthy, sustainably grown food. Now, more than ever is the time for us to stand with them and work together to build a stronger, more resilient food system that serves everyone.

The Dow Fund gives beginning and historically underserved farmers and ranchers a scholarship to the Sustainable Agriculture Conference. Read more about the fund’s namesake, the pioneering organic farmer William W. Dow.

We lost an organic farming pioneer when William “Bill” Dow passed away in December 2012.
Bill believed passionately in local, organic food and farming, which did not really exist in the late 1970’s when he started Ayrshire Farm in Chatham. Bill was a trailblazer – setting up Farmers’ Markets across the Southeast, including the Carrboro Farmers’ Market, and being one of the first farmers in the Carolinas to achieve organic certification – all before local and organic was in demand.
